Ninety-two identified Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons over the past three years, Palestinian prisoner organisations said on 6 October, 28 per cent of all such deaths they have recorded since 1967. They said Israel still withholds information on dozens of Gaza detainees who died in custody.
About 9,300 Palestinians were held as of early October, including 91 women, 350 children and 118 serving life sentences. Some 3,101 are administrative detainees, held without charge or trial; the groups say about half of all prisoners are held without charge.
The groups count about 26,000 arrests in the West Bank since October 2023, including 800 women and more than 2,000 children. The figures come from Palestinian organisations and have not been checked against Israel Prison Service data; the rights group Addameer gave a similar total of 9,400 in August.
