The World Food Programme said it is cutting monthly assistance in Gaza for about 500,000 people, reducing the number it reaches to 1.1 million, roughly half the population. Families still on its lists will get one food parcel instead of two and a smaller bag of flour. Cash payments for 75,000 families fall from 1,250 to 750 shekels a month.

WFP country director Shaun Hughes said the cuts were not caused by access problems: "that's because we don't have funding." The agency says it needs about $450 million over six months for Gaza and the West Bank, and has received roughly half its usual funding for the Palestinian territories in 2026. It halved West Bank aid to 200,000 people in September.

About 1.4 million people in Gaza, two thirds of the population, remain acutely food insecure, according to WFP. Arab News dates the announcement to 18 October, citing acting executive director Carl Skau; AFP reported it on 19 October. Daily hot meals have also been cut.
