Israeli forces raided 15 cities and towns across the West Bank between Friday and Saturday, 24 October, among them Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, al-Bireh, Birzeit, Bethlehem and East Jerusalem, Al Jazeera reported, as the army widened its response to the Hebron shooting beyond the southern city.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Society counted about 70 detentions in the same period, with arrests also recorded in Qalqilya, Jericho, Salfit, Tubas and Tulkarm. It said many of those detained were former prisoners. In Kobar, near Ramallah, troops raided and damaged the home of released prisoner Nael Barghouti.
After the shooting, security forces carried out dozens of operations and arrested dozens of people, some linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and seized weapons including M16 rifles, AP reported. The Israeli government had ordered the army to prepare a complete West Bank lockdown.
